People that play

🏏 WEEK 2 — THE PEOPLE WHO PLAY Every cricket club has a scorecard. But a scorecard doesn't tell the whole story. The 2026 season saw cricket at Bishopthorpe continue to grow, with three different senior teams offering three different ways to play, compete and be part of the club. Our Saturday side finished 8th in the league, but that doesn't really tell the story of a season where plenty of games went right down to the wire. There were some fantastic individual performances along the way, including Chris Norton's maiden century for Bishopthorpe 👏🏏 and a memorable spell from new junior signing Tom Wilson-Cose, who took 7 wickets in a single game! 🔥 Then there was our Foss League side, led by Brandon Clapham, who enjoyed a fantastic first season gaining promotion and providing valuable competitive cricket for players who perhaps don't want the commitment of Saturday league cricket, but still want to compete. And then there's the Riversiders. Friendly, social cricket. A chance to pick up a bat, have a bowl, bring a mate, meet some new people and enjoy the game without the pressure of league cricket. It's been brilliant to see the different groups of players around the club this year. Different ages. Different abilities. Different ambitions. Different reasons for playing. But one club. 💙 And that's something we want to build on. We're already looking at how we can create even more opportunities to play in 2027 whether that's competitive cricket, social cricket, junior cricket or new ways for people to get involved. Because we don't want Bishopthorpe to be a club where you have to fit into cricket. We want to create more cricket that fits around our community. So to everyone who pulled on a Bishopthorpe shirt this season thank you. Whether you played every Saturday, turned out for the Foss League, joined the Riversiders, helped us out when we were short, or simply came along for a game and a laugh… you helped make 2026 what it was. And we're only getting started. Next week: the next generation. 👀💙🏏 #BishopthorpeCC #GrowingTogether #CricketForEveryone
