vs Sheriff Hutton Bridge
Scores
Bishopthorpe 106-10, Sheriff Hutton Bridge 190-4
Bishopthorpe's difficult start to the season continued with a second heavy defeat. There was a sense of deja vu when asked to bat first on a good pitch the batsmen failed to post a competitive total, bowled out for just 106. On paper it looked a stronger side than last week, but there were no meaningful partnerships as several batsmen made starts but nobody was able to go on to make a score.
It was a much improved bowling and fielding display, but runs are the currency on which cricket matches are decided, and we didn't have nearly enough of them. Brandon Clapham picked up a couple of wickets and Jamie Blackburn and Sridhar Seshan one apiece, but the home side made short work of the chase, reaching the target with more than 18 overs to spare.
Matthew Maltby was arguably the difference between the two sides, claiming 3-14, and then hitting nine fours and two sixes in his unbeaten half century that came from just 36 balls. Attention now turns to the shorter form of the game with the T20 Wilberfoss Cup game at Ferry Lane on Sunday, followed by the first Foss League game away at Dunnington on Wednesday.
